DAY 2 OF THE 40-DAY MEDITATION CHALLENGE: I AM THE CONTINUATION OF GENERATIONS – November 23, 2016

The Buddhist monk Thích Nhất Hạnh says
“If you look deeply into the palm of your hand,
you will see your parents
and all generations of your ancestors.
All of them are alive in this moment.
Each is present in your body.
You are the continuation of each of these people.”

We tend to underestimate the promise of good –
not just for us here and now but passed on through generations.
We forget that our dreams are not merely ours,
they stand on the backs of our ancestors.
We do not realize that the seeds of our desires
were born in the hearts of our mother’s mother’s mother
and our father’s father’s father
– that we are merely a vessel of the love
that follows us through generations
in the pure possibility of success –
that we have come to this moment for
all of those lives that have come before us.
Our good is not just our wish,
or our longing, or our seed,
it is the hope of many lives and souls that have come before us.
This is neither our first chance or our last,
but it is our season.

Our time is now.Hicey Ross Jr Holding Granddaughter Christa Loving at Hospital January 1999
